Thomas Wilkinson Brotherton served with the Regiment from 1946 – 1952 and saw service on Gibraltar in Trieste and Malaya. He often talked of his time with the Regiment and in particular his time on Gibraltar. He loved hearing the Regimental Pipes and Drums playing the Black Bear so we had this played at his funeral.

In 1956 he married my mother Joan and started family life in Ashington Northumberland. He worked as a fitter for the NCB, another job he loved, worked very hard for his family and I never heard him complain. He retired from the NCB in 1985 and had twenty five good years before ill health and dementia took hold. He died in June 2013 in a very caring nursing home.

He is survived by his wife Joan, his five children, Jill, Susan, Carole, Neil and me Keith his eldest son and was a loving grandfather to Sean, Ross, Liam and Jacob.

I am proud to have had him as my father. He will be sorely missed by all his family and friends.

Keith Brotherton
