If you take a look at the calendar you realize that it is the end of August 2010. Then one realizes that the year has sped by at a rapid pace and that there is still so much to do. As I have said on numerous occasions before, at Witwatersrand Rifles the pace keeps on increasing as the year draws to a close and whilst other structures start to wind down Witwatersrand Rifles is winding up.
The year 2010 is no exception. The Regiment has been very busy to date with even more Force Deployment activities scheduled for the rest of the year. The Regiment is in the fortunate position that it has been tasked to prepare one sub-unit (company) for deployment on our countries borders. This time we will deploy on the KwaZulu-Natal and Mozambique border. The company will operate from Ndumo Operational Base under the Operational Command of Joint Tactical Headquarters KwaZulu-Natal with its headquarters situated in Durban. The company will conduct independent operations as part of its border protection mandate. The operations will be mobile in nature and as such the deployed forces will move about quite a lot. It is a large area that must be covered by one sub-unit. The area is densely vegetated and the terrain vehicle un-friendly and as such will restrict movement by vehicle to a large extent. (more…)
