Tom Charlton - Last of our Regimental Bandmasters

Posted by webmaster | Uncategorized | Friday 16 July 2010 7:55 pm

It is with sadness that we report the death of the last in a long line of Regimental Bandmasters to wit Majors Dunn, and Quinn, Captain Pike and now Tom Charlton.

Tom, the final holder of that position, was the Bandmaster of our Regimental Band at disbandment in 1968. He was more of a jazz man than any of his predecessors and a very good trumpet player, but his arranging was a boon to the Band. He continued with music when he left the Band and settled around the Oxford area. He will be cremated at Headington, Oxford on Friday 16 July”.

I am indebted to Band Sergeant Major John McEwan for this notice.
